"St James Infirmary Blues", here shortened to "St. James Infirmary" is a well known american folksong of anonymous origin.
It seems it originated at the beginning of the last century and by 1930 it had become a popular blues and jazz standard.
This version uses just two of the many verses of the original lyrics.
lyrics
I went down to Saint James Infirmary
saw my baby there
stretched on a long white table
so young, so cold, so fair
let her go, let her go
may god bless her
wherever she may be
she could travel this world wide over
she'll never find another man like me
let her go, let her go
may god bless her
wherever she may be
she could travel this world wide over
she'll never find another man like me
